Family Recognition

MSBOA

On March 4th, the Sr. High Concert Band traveled to Lakewood High School to compete in the MSBOA Festival. They played Mad Anthony arranged by Andrew Balent, Joy arranged by Frank Ticheli, and Moscow, 1941 arranged by Brian Balmages. They came home with a District 2, meaning they received an excellent rating or a letter grade B. They now know what areas they need to improve in for next year!

Senior Highlights

Hailey Martin

After high school, Hailey plans to attend Lansing Community College. The staff member who has had the biggest impact on her is Mrs. Webb because she has motivated and helped Hailey pass all of her classes and get her caught up. Something she is looking forward to after graduation is having her own money, her own place to live, and her own pets. Some advice she would like to give to incoming freshmen is, “Do your work. It’s hard to catch up when you get behind.” The highlight of her senior year was the Powderpuff and Powerball games.

Austin Romero

After high school, Austin plans to attend Northwood University and study Economics. The staff member who has had the biggest impact on him is Mr. Budnik because he has inspired him to further pursue an interest in economics and business. Something Austin looks forward to after graduation is not coming to school. Some advice he would like to give to incoming freshmen is, “Listen to teachers and don’t give them a hard time.” The highlight of his senior year was the Fall Homecoming Dance.

Staff Highlight

Mr. David Huber, 6th Grade Teacher and Varsity Golf Coach, took an uncommon path to education, earning his teaching certificate through Michigan Teachers of Tomorrow after serving as an Army instructor. Grateful for the opportunity to teach in Maple Valley, he brings real-world experience and dedication to his students. Coming from a small rural town himself, he appreciates the district’s close-knit, family-like atmosphere. In his free time, he enjoys bowling, camping, and traveling. His message to students is, “Remember, FAIL stands for First Attempt In Learning. It is not about failing but being able to pick yourself back up and put in the work to get better. Do not ever take ‘No’ for an answer, find a way to get to ‘Yes’. Never give up!”
