Fun in the Valley

This week, the students in the high school student council began planning homecoming. Homecoming week will be September 18th-23rd. Representing the Freshman class, Kiylee Kirby and Cameron Murray. Representing the Sophomore class, Kaitlyn Garlinger and Jackson Burpee. Representing the Junior class, Hailey Martin and Christopher Mock. Finally, representing the Senior class will be; Kyla VanAlstine, MacKenzie Decker, Greanlee DePyper, Ayden Wilkes, Owen McGlocklin, and Chanse Courtney.

Sports

On Tuesday, the boy's varsity soccer team traveled to Bellevue. On Wednesday, the JV and varsity volleyball teams traveled to Springport. On Thursday, the varsity cross country team traveled to the Gilmore Car Museum in Delton. The varsity boys' soccer team had a home game against Barry County Christian. The JV football team played home against Mendon. Friday, the varsity football team played an away game against Morenci. And to end the week, on Saturday, the varsity cross country team traveled to Lakeview High School for a meet and the varsity volleyball team played an away game against Perry.

Clubs

On Thursday, the chess club held its first meeting of the year in Mrs. Hoefler’s room.

Meet Mr. Wilkes! Mr. Wilkes is the Athletic Director and Dean of Students for the High School. 

Where did you go to school/currently going to school?

“I went to KCC, Olivet, Marygrove, and Ohio State University.” 

What made you want to become an educator at Maple Valley?

“People.”

What is your favorite part about working at Maple Valley?

“Kids.”

What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not at school?

“Whatever my wife says!”

Seniors of the Week

Meet Jericho Payne! 

After high school, Jericho plans to go to trade school for pipefitting. The teacher who has had the biggest impact on Jericho is Mrs. Webb because she strives to make sure Jericho is successful and always gives great life advice to help Jericho in the future. After graduation, Jericho is most excited to find a career he enjoys and start a family later down the road. Some advice Jericho would give to incoming freshmen is to enjoy high school while it lasts, pay attention, and don’t be afraid to try new things. This year, Jericho is looking forward to an outstanding football season with his teammates.Meet Trevor Rutledge!

After high school, Trevor plans to get a job as a mechanic. The teacher who has had the biggest impact on Trevor’s life has been Mrs. Webb because she is always there to help Trevor whenever he may need it. After graduation, Trevor is most excited to be done with high school. Some advice Trevor would give to incoming freshmen is to do your work and don’t fall behind.
