This week, the Student Council released the dress-up days and themes for homecoming week! Homecoming week will take place September 18th-23rd. The official homecoming ballot was sent out on Monday, students have now begun voting for who they want as their prince, princess, king, and queen.

On Monday, the cross-country team traveled to Gun Lake for a county invitational. The varsity boys soccer team played a home game against Phoenix High School. On Tuesday, the JV and varsity volleyball teams played home games against Union City. On Thursday, the varsity boys soccer team played a home game against Jackson Christian High School. The JV football team traveled to Concord High School for an away game. On Friday, the varsity football team played a home game, also against Concord High School. To end the week, on Saturday, the boys varsity soccer team played a home Maple Valley Invite game and the Varsity volleyball team played an away game against Saranac.

This week, FFA began planning their Adopt-A-Highway project. The cast list for the Fall musical also came back this week. This year’s Fall musical will be Annie.

Meet Ms. Hoefler! Ms. Hoefler is the Jr. High science teacher.  

Where did you go to school/currently going to school?

“I went to Western Michigan University for my undergrad and Marygrove college for my Master’s degree.” 

What made you want to become an educator at Maple Valley?

“I’ve worked in a few bigger schools, but I love Maple Valley and the way I can get to really know my students.” 

What is your favorite part about working at Maple Valley?

“The school spirit and family feel is fantastic. Students and staff feel supported by our community.” 

What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not at school?

“Golfing, thrifting, and eating sushi.”

Meet Shelby Ripley! After high school, Shelby plans to go to college and get a bachelor’s degree in either illustration or animation. The teacher who has had the biggest impact on Shelby’s life has been Mrs. Christopher because she helped give Shelby the confidence she needed and taught her to open up and speak to people more often. After graduation, Shelby is most excited to not wake up at 5 in the morning. Some advice Shelby would give to incoming freshmen would be to always walk on the right side of the hallway. The highlight of Shelby’s senior year has been getting ranch spilled on her.
