First Weather Impact Notification
Please read this LETTER from Dr. Bertolini in regards to our first weather impact and future notifications.
Dear Maple Valley Families,
Our first potential weather event is starting this evening. We are watching this closely and will make a decision for tomorrow as early as possible in the morning. Remember to update your contact information with our offices to be sure you receive the robocall notifications. We also post our status on news stations, our website, and Facebook pages.
If you do not receive any notifications, we have determined it is safe to proceed to school for the day.
We plan to allow after-school practices this evening, as our area is not supposed to get severe weather until 7:30PM. Our coaches have been informed to monitor conditions in case the weather pattern shifts and roads begin to deteriorate earlier than expected. The 7th and 8th grade boy’s basketball game has been canceled for this evening.
The weather is predicted to be potential whiteout conditions and severe cold due to high winds. There is a chance that this will be happening in some areas of our district and not others, so be advised that we assess the entirety of our district to determine if it is safe for our students to be transported based upon the weather conditions in our entire district. The Maple Valley district covers over 86 square miles and with some weather patterns, it can be fine in one place and impassable in others.
If visibility is good in all parts of our district and we are able to hold school, we recommend bundling the kids up really well as the wind will be wicked cold.
Thank you for being prepared,
Dr. Katherine Bertolini
Superintendent
