SAEBRS Survey

Three times a year, Maple Valley Schools is required to check in with our students to see how they are doing academically, socially, and emotionally.

In the fall, our 3rd through 12th-grade students completed a 10-minute survey called the Social, Emotional, Academic Behavior Rating Scale, or SAEBRS for short. Our winter survey window is coming up. This survey is kept confidential and only a limited number of staff have access to the raw data. Most of the staff only see the percentages by grade or by school level. The SAEBRS survey is used to help our students focus on their education and to help remove social and emotional barriers to learning. Sometimes that involves building social or emotional skills such as getting along with others or dealing with stress. The optional SAEBRS survey allows Maple Valley to focus our resources on priority skills first so that our academic studies are more effective.

Maple Valley wants all of our students and families to feel comfortable with the SAEBRS survey. If your family prefers that your student not participate, please reach out to your school counselor to let them know that you would prefer your child not participate in this survey. Our goal has always been to get 80% participation with surveys and that has not been a problem in the past even with students opting out. With a larger sample size, we know our decisions are more likely to reflect what is best for our students. Please talk to your child about participating in the optional SAEBRS survey. The window opens Friday, January 13th, 2023, and closes Thursday, January 19th, 2023. The survey will be available through student email and the link can only be used once. Students will have a chance to complete this optional survey during the school day.

Please feel free to reach out to your school’s counselor if you have any questions or would like to review the questions on the optional survey.
