Rising Natural Gas Costs

Please read this letter from Dr. Bertolini and Mr. Chamberlain in regard to the rising natural gas prices.

Dear Families and Staff of Maple Valley,

We are all well aware of the impact inflation is having on many goods and services. I am writing to you because of the impact we are seeing in our utilities. Our bill for November more than doubled what it was a year ago. This is an exponential increase that is damaging to our budget. We are currently installing electronic monitoring systems at Fuller and Maplewood schools which will help our heating and cooling systems to run more efficiently and maintain improved oxygen levels in classrooms as well. This will be completed over the next several weeks. The Jr./Sr. HS already has this system in place. Please be advised we will be keeping our buildings at a temperature of 68 degrees while the costs of natural gas are this high. We want you to be aware of this adjustment. Even taking our building’s heat down a few degrees should make a significant impact on our bottom line. Everyone should remain comfortable at this temperature provided we dress in layers and are wearing appropriate gear for our time outdoors as well.

We will not allow blankets or other wraps to be worn in classrooms, so please make sure appropriate clothing is worn for comfort. Thank you for supporting our efforts to keep our funds available for learning.

In appreciation,

Dr. Katherine Bertolini Eric Chamberlain
