Introduction & Scheduling

Join us in welcoming our new Principal, Mr. Tim Goggins, and please read this scheduling announcement.

Greetings Maple Valley Students and Parents,

First, let me introduce myself. I am Tim Goggins, and I have recently been named the principal of Maple Valley Jr./Sr. High School. I am thankful to Dr. Bertolini and the Maple Valley School Board for this opportunity and I could not be happier to be here. I came to this position after serving as the assistant principal of Pennfield High School and before that I taught social studies for several years at Delton Kellogg High School. I live in Grand Rapids with my wife Kathryn, and we have two grown sons and four grandchildren. I look forward to meeting all of you as the school year progresses. Please feel free to introduce yourselves when we cross paths at various school events.

Secondly, I want to let you know the challenging task of creating a master schedule has been completed and is now available to students. The philosophy behind this schedule was to honor the diverse needs of our students (traditional, Honors, Ag., etc.) while also balancing classes in a way that is meaningful and makes sense. I realize some of you may see some changes from schedules that were available earlier, in many cases those early schedules had to be shifted in order to accommodate staffing changes and class sizes. We regret any inconvenience this updated schedule creates but the complexities of scheduling made it unavoidable. If you have any questions please contact the office and we will be happy to assist you in addressing your concerns.

Lastly, I want to encourage all students to really engage in school this year. Now that we are hopefully in the post-pandemic era, it's important to get back to all the things we used to do and more. High School is a once in a lifetime experience and when it's done, it's done for good. With that in mind, I want to encourage everyone to truly experience it. Go out for a sport, even if you haven't done it before, our teams need you. Join a club or activity, there are all sorts of events you can participate in. Most importantly, broaden your circle of friends to include someone new. High school friendships are often some of the most important ones in our lives and including someone new can be a really positive thing.  I'm looking forward to a great year at Maple Valley and hope you are as well, so embrace and engage in school, and have fun with it!!
