On September 22nd, the boys traveled to Stockbridge. They fought a hard game against a good defensive team. Losing 1-4.

On September 27th, boys’ soccer team had a home game against Ionia. They fought hard trying to put the ball in the goal, but couldn’t end up doing it. They lost 0-6.
On September 23rd, the JV Volleyball team had a home game against Reading, starting with a delayed start at 6:00. Despite the team losing the overall game, the girls put up a great fight and managed to take away a match win in the 3rd set. The team put up great serves that night and fought very hard. The final scores were 10-25, 12-25, and 25-22.
On September 23rd, the Varsity volleyball team played a home game against Reading. After gaining some momentum in the second set, with serves, the girls fought hard to stay in the game, but ultimately fell short. The final scores of the match were 8-25, 22-25, and 18-25.

On September 27th, Maple Valley’s JV volleyball team faced an away tournament at Perry. Despite being down a few players, they made it all the way to the championship match, battling with Lansing Eastern for 3 sets. The Lions brought home second place in the silver bracket of the tournament.
On September 23rd, the Middle School Cross-Country runners traveled to Stockbridge to run their first league race. The girls' team ultimately finished third overall. With Addie Tobias finishing first in the race. Other top runners include Raegan Jones, Rieleigh Thompson, Rece Nevins, Jojo Tobias, and Karlee Davis. They all set season-best times. The boys' Middle School team finished 2nd overall, with Porter Bryson finishing first in the race by well over a minute. Other top finishers with new season best times were Jaxson Eye, Levi Whitford, Ashton Wood, and Jacob Blakey.
On September 27th, the Middle School Cross Country team traveled to the Ostego Bulldog Invitational. For the boys in a field of almost 200 other competitors, Porter Bryson placed 4th, earning a medal. Jaxson Eye then crossed the finish in the top 30, earning him a medal. Other top runners were Levi Whitford and Ashton Wood with personal bests, and Jacob Blakely. For the girls in a field of over 200 runners, Addie Tobias placed in the top 50. Other top runners were Raegan Jones, Rieleigh Thompson, Rece Nevins, Jojo Tobias, and Karlee Davis.

On September 25th, JV protected their home den. Defeating Hartford 32-18. They played a great defensive game, stopping Hartford from going anywhere. The offense then came in and drove the football down to the touchdown zone.

On September 27th, the Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Pansophia Academy to play in a quad tournament. After some good teamwork and communication, the team placed 1st seed in the bracket. After coming back from an 11-1 Pansophia lead, the Lions fought to come back into the game and ultimately won 1st place in the tournament.
On September 23rd, the High School Cross Country team also went to Stockbridge, their first league meet. The girls' team took 5th overall with Melanie Jones leading the team, placing in the top 15. Other top runners with personal bests were Izabella Soper, Lydia Emerick, and Ada Maria Blakely. The boys' team, with only 4 runners, placed 7th, beating Reading. Tyler Curtis was the first to cross the finish line, with Cameron Murray not too far behind. Other top runners were Quincy Page and Grady Wilkes, both with new personal bests.

On September 27th, the Varsity Cross Country team ran their best races yet. At the Ostego Bulldog Invitational, Melanie Jones led the way for the girls runners, placing 24th and earning a medal. Izabella Soper was next across the line with a new personal best and placed in the top 50. Other top runners were Lydia Emerick and Ada Maria Blakely. For the boys' team, Cameron Murray was predicted to get 78th place but ended up being in the top 50 after cutting over a minute off his time and earning a medal. Other top runners were Grady Wilkes with a new Personal best and Quincy Page.

On September 26th, Maple Valley traveled to Hartford. Varsity struggled in the 1st half to get the ball down the field. But our Varsity held on to hope. At the beginning of the 4th quarter, they found a gap in the defense and were able to score a touchdown. Leaving Hartford with a win, 13-6.
Senior Highlights
Ada Blakely
After high school, Ada plans on attending college to go into the psychology field. The staff member who has had the greatest impact on her is Mr. Dennison, as he has always supported her and helped her figure out what she wanted to do in the future. After graduation, Ada plans to continue her education in ways that would allow her to travel and experience different cultures. Some advice that she would like to give to upcoming freshmen is, “Try not to procrastinate! It never works out.” Ada is looking forward to making great memories with the people she cares about for the rest of her senior year.

Staff Highlight

Mr. Darryl Sydloski is the Director of Finace at Maple Valley Schools, and he was worked here for 21 years. Sydloski attend Aquinas College. He wanted to move into Public Education to use his skills at a public school, and his favorite part about working at Maple Valley is the people. His favorite thing to do when not at school is fishing, and some advice he would like to give to students is, “Be yourself, balance your academic and personal well-being. Be a lifetime learner and explore new interests.”
