On February 9th, the Varsity girls basketball team hosted Comstock and earned an impressive 48–24 victory. The Lions controlled the game on both ends of the floor, securing a strong home win.
On February 11th, the JV and Varsity girls basketball teams traveled to Concord. No score was reported for the JV game. The Varsity team fell 14–59 in their matchup.
On February 12th, the JV and Varsity girls basketball teams traveled to Springport for a competitive night on the road. The JV game score was not reported. In varsity action, the Lions battled hard in a tightly contested matchup but came up just short in a 37–38 loss. It was a close game from start to finish, with the team fighting until the final buzzer in a one-point decision.
On February 10th, the JV and Varsity boys basketball teams traveled to Springport. No score was reported for the JV game. The Varsity team fell 52–77 in their matchup.
On February 12th, the Maple Valley Varsity boys basketball team hosted Calhoun Christian and earned an impressive 72–41 victory. It was a memorable night for the Lions, as Teegen McDonald scored his 1,000th career point in the first half of the game.
The milestone basket added to an already strong team performance, with the Lions controlling the game on both ends of the floor. Congratulations to Teegen on reaching 1,000 career points and to the team on a great home win!
On February 13th, the Maple Valley JV and Varsity boys basketball teams hosted Reading. The JV squad started the night strong with a 53-24 win, while the Varsity team followed with a 58-44 victory, giving the Lions a successful night on the court.
On February 9th, 11th, and 14th, the 7th and 8th Grade Girls Basketball teams participated in the Big 8 League tournament.
On February 12th, the Maple Valley wrestling team competed at the Districts held at Bellevue High School against Galesburg-Augusta. It was a hard-fought matchup, but the Lions came up just short, finishing with 36 team points to Galesburg-Augusta’s 42. The team showed determination and effort throughout the competition, setting the stage for future matches and continued growth.
On February 14th, the boys wrestling team competed at the MHSAA District 31 Individual District Tournament. The Lions faced strong competition throughout the day, with several wrestlers battling deep into the brackets.
Jackson Burpee highlighted the tournament with a 2nd place finish at 190 pounds. Burpee advanced to the finals with a quick fall in the quarterfinals and a major decision in the semifinals before finishing as district runner-up. At heavyweight, Joe Long placed 3rd, earning multiple falls throughout the tournament, including two first-period pins and another fall in the 3rd place match to secure his podium finish.
At 215 pounds, Tyrese Robinson recorded two falls on the day while competing in a tough bracket. Roman Schliz (126) earned a first-round fall and added a major decision victory in the consolation bracket. Gavin Swift (157) also picked up a consolation fall after receiving a first-round bye.
At 144 pounds, Quincy Page competed against strong opposition in the championship bracket. At 113 pounds, Trapper Wawiernia and Sawyer Wawiernia faced off in the opening round, with Trapper advancing by fall before continuing through the bracket.

FFA Regional Leadership Contests
Congratulations to all the Maple Valley students who competed at regionals yesterday! Brooklyn Myers shone in the Greenhand Public Speaking Contest, earning 2nd place with Gold and advancing to States. Nolan Gates competed in the Jr. High Public Speaking Contest, placing 4th with Silver. Kearson Keiffer took 3rd place with Gold in the Job Interview Contest, and Hannah Primm placed 6th with Silver in the Jr. High Public Speaking Contest.

NHS Blood Drive
On February 13th, the National Honor Society hosted a blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross. They had 41 donors and collected 35 units of blood, beating last year’s collection of only 21 by a lot! Thank you to everyone who came out to make the blood drive a success.
