Welcome Back

It was great to see everyone back in the Valley from Winter Break! We can’t wait to see what the rest of the school year brings for everyone.

On January 5th, the JV & Varsity Boys Basketball teams hosted Delton Kellogg and defended home court with a pair of strong performances. The JV Lions earned a solid 60–42 win, setting the tone early, while the Varsity Lions followed with a hard-fought 57–49 victory to complete the sweep. Great energy and teamwork all around!

On January 8th, the JV and Varsity Boys Basketball teams hosted Quincy at home and came away with a pair of exciting wins. The JV Lions earned a solid 50–32 victory, controlling the game from start to finish. In a thrilling matchup, the Varsity Lions edged out Quincy 47–45, securing a hard-fought win on their home court.


On January 6th, the JV & Varsity Girls Basketball teams hosted Springport at home. The JV Lions battled hard but fell 24–31, while the Varsity Lions continued to compete with effort and determination in a 25–42 loss. The teams showed resilience and will look to build on these experiences moving forward.

On January 9th, the JV and Varsity Girls Basketball teams hosted Quincy at home. The JV Lions pulled out a close and exciting 25–23 victory, battling hard until the final buzzer. The Varsity Lions faced a tough matchup and fell 14–42, continuing to gain experience and compete as the season progresses.


On January 7th, the Maple Valley wrestling team competed at home against Quincy. The Lions fought hard throughout the dual, but ultimately fell 30–45 in team points. The match provided valuable mat time and competitive experience as the team continues its season.

On January 10th, the Maple Valley wrestling team competed at the Lakeview Annual Tournament, finishing 8th out of 18 teams with 99.5 team points in a strong field of competitors.

Several Lions turned in standout performances:

  • Jackson Burpee placed 2nd in the 190 lb weight class

  • Joe Long placed 2nd at 285 lbs

  • Tyrese Robinson earned 3rd place at 215 lbs

  • Roman Schilz placed 6th at 126 lbs

  • Trapper Wawiernia placed 6th at 113 lbs

Additional team contributions came from wrestlers across the lineup, with valuable points added by Josh Deppe, Brooklyn Burpee, Noah Lucas, Dakota Leslie, and Sawyer Wawiernia through hard-fought matches throughout the day.

Overall, it was a solid showing for the Lions, highlighted by multiple podium finishes and strong team depth as the season continues.
