On February 17th, the JV and Varsity girls’ basketball teams took the court at home against St. Phillip Catholic Central. The JV team delivered a dominant performance, securing a 40-15 victory. The Varsity team faced a tough opponent and, despite their best efforts, fell 18-44.

On February 21st, the JV and Varsity girls’ basketball teams traveled to Bronson to take on the Vikings. Despite their best efforts, both teams faced tough competition and came up short. The JV team battled hard but fell 16-31. The Varsity team faced a strong Viking Squad, ultimately losing 22-66.



On February 18th, the JV and Varsity boys’ basketball teams traveled to Reading. We do not have a score from the JV game. The Varsity team played a great game and won 64-59.

On February 18th, the JV and Varsity girls’ basketball teams took the court at home to face the Union City Chargers in a competitive matchup. The JV team fought hard but fell 12-32. The Varsity team played a strong game, keeping it close, but ultimately lost 46-55.


On February 20th, the JV and Varsity boys’ basketball teams traveled to Bronson for a competitive matchup. The JV team fought hard in a close game but fell 48-55. The Varsity team also put forth a strong effort but faced a tough Viking squad, resulting in a 48-67 loss.


Activites/Clubs

National FFA Week

From February 18th through the 21st the Maple Valley FFA took part in the National FFA Week. They made dress-up days, trivia, and more to help celebrate. But the week's highlight was to see what class could rack up the most points for some donuts. In the end, the Sophomores took the win and received donuts.

FFA Regional Leadership Contests

On February 19th the FFA had 2 members compete in the Region 1 Leadership Contests which were held at Calhoun Area Careers Center. Brooklyn Myers competed in the Jr. High Public Speaking contest and placed 3rd with Silver. Gage Jordan competed in the Greenhand Public Speaking contest and placed 5th with silver.

Talent Show

The Class of 2026 hosted a talent show on March 20th. Students from all three school buildings participated. There were a variety of acts that ranged from original poems and songs to singing, and instrument playing. The judges were Mrs. Catchick, Ms. Cook, and Mr. Goggins. Each building had a first, second, and third-place winner, and trophies and ribbons were awarded! The Class of 2026 would like to thank everyone who participated and their parents for making this event a success! We look forward to hosting again in the future! Congratulations to all of you for showing your Lion Pride!!!

Jazz Band Trip to Thornapple Manor

On February 21st, the Jazz band took a trip to Thornapple Manor to play for the residents. The band of 12 students and band director, Mr. DeWitt, played a handful of songs including Ja-Da and Swingin' with Jack both by Mike Steinel and Slick by Robert Beasley. Solos were played by Shannon Kistler on clarinet and Jolina Steury on trumpet. The band has plans to return for another performance in April. Thanks to Thornapple Manor for the hospitality!

Senior Highlights

Isaiah Ross

After high school, Isaiah plans on taking a 2-year college program for law enforcement through KCC. The teachers who had the biggest impact on him were Ms. Tibble and Mr. Wilhelm by talked to him about his personal life and school work and also got to know him personally. After graduation, he looks forward to not coming to school and will miss his friends. Some advice for the incoming freshman is to be ready for Mrs. Webb to yell at you. The highlight of his senior year is having so many snow days and not having to make those days up at the end of the year.

Riley Skinner

After high school, Riley is going to Alma College for their teaching program. The staff member who has had the biggest impact on her is Mrs. Webb, she has been like a mother to her and makes sure she is going to graduate. After graduation, Riley looks forward to sleeping in. Some advice for the freshman is to “Be here as much as you can, if you do miss school a lot, get back and catch up on everything you missed don't just push all the work aside. Also just behave yourself and don't get in trouble. Your life will be so much easier if you just do what you're supposed to do.” The highlight of her senior year was the homecoming football game.

Hudson Winslow

After high school, Hudson plans on going to Western Michigan University to study English and History. The Teacher who has had the biggest impact on her is Mr. Denison, He has been an Inspiration for career paths, and acting opportunities, harboring a very kind and accepting classroom environment that has allowed her to make more friends. After graduation, she also looks forward to traveling out of this small town. Some advice she would give to incoming freshmen is “Don’t oversell yourself. Be honest to yourself, be nice to yourself, your peers, and your teachers.” The highlight of her senior year was the musicals and the play.
