School Closure Notice

Please read this notice from Dr. Bertolini in regard to the school closure tomorrow.

Dear Families of Maple Valley,

In the interest of providing as much time for families to prepare as possible, there will be a notice going out to the media this evening at 8 pm that schools are closing across multiple counties tomorrow (including Maple Valley) for the full day. This will include CTE programs and GSRP as well.

If the forecast holds as predicted, Thursday is a likely closure as well, but we will make that determination in the evening tomorrow to see if the weather is as severe as has been predicted by the National Weather Service.

In the meantime, please prepare for potential energy outages tonight and tomorrow morning before the storm sets in. We are in the epicenter of the worst ice predictions from .25 to over. 50 of an inch of ice. This will be similar to the ice storm of 2013 which resulted in a power outage for up to 10 days for people. Additionally, 30-50 mph winds and plunging temperatures are predicted which increases the likelihood of power loss. We will confirm the status for Thursday tomorrow evening once we can watch the models and forecasts to determine if we are still in the worst of the path of the ice.

Please plan for two days of school cancelation, knowing cancelations will be announced the evening before. Hopefully, we will resume school on Thursday, but I advise you to plan for either possibility to help you prepare.

Thank you,

Dr. Katherine Bertolini
