We are excited to announce our summer learning opportunities for Maple Valley Students. We are offering these learning opportunities for all grade levels, however space is limited so submit your application today. All applicants who are selected to participate will be notified by the end of May. Each age group has a different application, so please fill out the appropriate application for your student.
Our Elementary Summer Learning Program will run from June 1st to June 30th. Teachers will reference the NWEA data to determine the academic needs of each student, then will craft lessons to best meet the students needs. There will be a primary focus on ELA and math skills along with fun and engaging activities with a nature focus. Students will arrive at 8:00AM and leave at 12 PM. Breakfast will be served from 8:00-8:30AM and lunch will be provided from 11:30AM-12:00PM. Both meals will be served at school.
Maple Valley and Eaton County are very happy to be partnering with Davenport University to bring the Future Urban STEM Educator Preparation Program (FUSE) to our district. The main goal of the program is to expose high school students to the art of teaching science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to students. Ultimately, Maple Valley would like to grow and mentor our own STEM teachers for the future and our partnership with Davenport University and FUSE will help us do that. As an added bonus, Maple Valley 6th to 8th grade students will get to experience STEM in a practical and fun way with a trained high school student in a small group setting. Activities could involve photosynthesis, hydroponics, robotics, wind energy, car and track construction, and cryptography. The curriculum is being planned and the materials are being purchased right now. The best part about FUSE is that it allows Maple Valley to focus on our students, our future, and our community.
Our Jr/Sr High School Summer Learning Program will run from June 1st through June 24th. Students will attend Monday thru Thursday from 8:00AM-2:00PM and will be provided breakfast, snacks and lunch. We will be using our online Edgenuity program for the credit recovery process. Students will be supported by Shannon Webb, Jeff Fisher, Riley Fisher and Logan Kyre. As soon as a student completes their missing credit/credits they are free to go home and not return. There will be busing available in the morning, students need to be picked up in the afternoon.
